God: Uncensored

Let's talk about secular music. Or secular things for that matter…along with spiritual, things stay with me. I see a growing sect of believers that don’t necessarily see a problem with listening to “secular music?” Now most traditionalist or bible believing Christians of yesterday used to ostracize musicians for playing secular music and saints for listening to it even though I remember hearing Al Green and Aretha at a lot of cookouts, I digress. By “it” I mean the cultural norm for Gospel music which has a distinct sound. Organ, drums, piano; you get it. Now before we get into if it is right or wrong let us understand a few things before continuing. First, who created music? God, as the scripture Proverbs 16:4 said he has created all things for himself, even the wicked for the day of evil. Secondly, who was the chief musician in heaven? Satan, Lucifer, you get it. So now that we understand those two things we must lastly understand that anything that is not used for its intended purpose in most cases leads to perversion of that thing and consequences that were not intended for that thing as a result. Somebody should preach that one-day. Anyway, as an example, sex is not inherently bad but outside of marriage sex could be a very destructive device in the lives of people.

So now that we understand those two things we must lastly understand that anything that is not used for its intended purpose in most cases leads to perversion of that thing and consequences that were not intended for that thing as a result.

So let's use the same framework in order to understand that NO GENRE of MUSIC is bad. One more time, NO GENRE of MUSIC is bad but there is a caveat. All things are lawful to Christians but not expedient, there comes a time when you have to ask yourself why am I doing this? Is this beneficial for my walk with Christ? The constant of it all is no musical sound is inherently evil but the variable is the lyrics. We cannot fool ourselves into thinking that music does not have the power to change moods, persuade opinions or alter beliefs because it does.

Christ has made you free and we all should abound in that freedom but let us not use our freedom as a door to make us bound. What am I saying? Be wise as a serpent when you are letting that music permeate in the gates of your mind and soul. God may have created music but Satan has made a perverse use of it as he does many other things. Therefore be cognizant of that reality when you are bobbing your head to the beat. Pay attention to what is being said.
