Sentiments of My Masculinity
Our adversary is strategic with the narrative he endorses. When you chronologically look at popular movements throughout the course of our country’s history, the pendulum seems to constantly swing drastically. Just because God isn’t the author of confusion, doesn’t mean Satan is confused. The increasing perplexity in what defines a man has consumed this world with numerous and conflicting perspectives. The grieving thing about this idea of “morality”, is that it shifts as often as the sun sets. Different races, cultures, nationalities, etc. all war over what’s acceptable for men to wear, say and do. What we don’t realize, is that the force in the driver's seat of our world’s principles is intentional about advertising the instability we see today.
Growing up, the expectation for myself (that I adopted from my surroundings) was to box my emotions and wear a cape of pride & self-reliance. It was considered weak to lack answers and the risk of embarrassment due to any existing ignorance was high. I had to endure in private in order to be accepted in public. My insecurities were iniquities, but my stubbornness was success until I felt my posture eat me up inside. The other day, I saw a commercial that challenged the existing definition of masculinity. A smile went on my face when they were ready to address the stigma of aggressiveness. But, as I continued watching, I saw manifesting that pendulum swing that I referenced earlier. We live in a generation where homosexuality is the status quo and effeminate behavior equates to emotional health. Even before my time, history details periods when predominately, darker skin legally demeaned a man’s worth & deprived him of equal opportunities. The remnants and residue of that has trickled into our present society, but the issues we face regarding this topic aren’t just issue of skin. They aren’t just an issue of status... they aren’t just an issue of skill.
The Verdict: at its root, it’s an issue of sin.
The solution I present to you, the reader, isn’t an attempt to force religion down your throat. Rather, it’s my advocacy of your Creator. There’s only one set of principles that’s been inexhaustible & unwavering since the beginning of time. There’s only one God who’s been the same yesterday, today, and forever. There’s only one Savior who takes the strain off of what you do for Him and places the spotlight on what He can do for you. His name is Jesus. When you look at His process of creating man, He prophesied the purpose of Adam before forming the physical characteristics of Adam. Adam’s downfall was conforming to what his surroundings offered him through the words of a liar. Our belief not only adopts us into His Kingdom but grants us access to receiving the true knowledge and stature of ourselves.
We established earlier that it’s illegitimate to rely on your immediate environments to determine your value. Instead, let’s rely on His essence that has the power to sculpt us into His intent for creating us. Instead of looking at His Word as merely a collection of stories, let’s draw from it the parameters for walking as you were meant to walk and talk as you were meant to talk. The Bible is the Blueprint for Building Boys to Men.
